Situated west of the historical centre, Via Togliatti crosses an outlying district characterized by the strong presence of commercial and service structures (a dance school, day-care centre, gym, insurance company, supermarket, butcher shop, stationary store, hairdresser...). The street has a shabby appearance, is lacking appeal and is inhospitable. The plan for the urban redevelopment of the street proposes supplying the district and the city an outdoor space for pleasurably living and resting both during the day and at night. The design of a new area between the two carriageways, "the walk", delimited by a green area slightly inclined with respect to the road itself, will contain resting areas and play equipment for children and allows socialization, reading and relaxation. The creation of an elevated "walkway" in the central part of the street will offer a different type of strolling area and a new vision of the environment. A lot of attention has been paid to materials, to the Trani stone pavement, to the choice of greenery and to the facilities and equipment. The lighting of the vehicle routes has been entrusted to newly-conceived circular fixtures with controlled optics and LED bulbs, installed on posts (8 metres high, arm length 1 metre, spaced 30 metres apart). The pedestrian paths will be illuminated by very small fixtures, also with inserted LED bulbs, hidden from view in the embankments of flowerbeds or in the handrail of the walkway. The proposal to install "totems" - ultrathin backlighting panels providing uniform LED light - in part of the green area of the walking trail, would offer a scenographic attraction, areas of diffused lighting, the possibility of advertisements and visual communication about events taking place in the city, graphic displays and dynamic and chromatic effects.
