L'arte Russa e sovietica
1. At the centre of the exhibition space "the boulevard": table in line with books,
review, music and video projection
The setting of the exhibition "Russian and Soviet Art
1870/1930" held in the Lingotto building offered the visitor, on an area of 6.000
sq. m, an exhaustive view of avantgard russian art through paintings, sculptures
and original period documents. The architectonic elements studied by Piano are
simple, the role of protagonist in determing the form of the space having been
left to "artificial light". It´s a light system based on reflected light (on
white panels) obtained with metallic iodide lamps, screened by pink filters.
Natural light is completely removed from the space. The existing openings of the
building have been blocked with heavy cloths: an air space of varied depths is
interposed between the external walls and the exhibiting area: fascination and
impressive space. (DOMUS n° 711, december 1989)
