Zaubertone: Mozart in Wien
1-2. The exhibition tour
3. the lighting system: the adjustable conductive copper lighting appliance with
extremely low-voltage halogen lamps supplied by conductors, again made of copper, sunk
in the wooden beam
This major exhibition organised inside the Kunstlerhaus
featured all kinds of materials: paintings and etchings, sculptures, musical instruments,
musical scores, correspondence, everyday objects and period relics. It also hosted a
reconstruction of six of the composer´s opera sets. It was designed like a guided tour
constructed out of long parallel walls fitted with glass windows. These windows had
wooden reticular frames with channels inside them for playing the music. Indeed, a
soundtrack of Mozart´s works accompanied the entire tour. The lighting appliances were
also attached to these structures. These appliances, specially designed and manufactured
in small numbers, were made of copper elements supporting a cardan joint to make the
sources as adjustable as possible. This simple, mobile appliance was the main feature
of all the exhibition lighting on both the walls and windows.
