After a 27 month-long refurbishment, the Centre Georges Pompidou for its reopening on New Years day, 2000, pays a tribute to one of its co-author. The first exhibition to be held in the Galerie Sud is a closer view of some famous architectural projects by Renzo Piano. His realizations are displayed on twenty floating-like tables, each 12 square-metres large, suspendend in a forest of vertical cables. Each project is thoroughly explained, from its early elaboration and influences, the buildig process through the final touch. The main exhibition material is constitued of a large and varied selection of visual support: sketches, drawings, pictures, texts, films and models. The works are divided into three thematic families, three majors aspects of architecture according to the Renzo Piano Building Workshop: Sensitiveness, Invention and Urbanity. The projectors "Perroquet" expressely designed by Renzo Piano and produced by iGuzzini light up with diretional light the models on the large tables and the panels with the drowings.
