"From the point of view of a furbishing design for a museum, it was decided to keep its image as a historical receptacle, without incorporating anything that might interfere: from the systems for displaying the works of art to the furnishing features and everything serving to safeguard and protect the works and make them look their best. The design worked around the idea of a masonry wall providing support and foundations for the works (...) the walls in the museum spaces will basically be able to hold the works without any obstacles or blocks other than the architectural constituents of the building itself. The layout of the works will work along the lines of maximum transformability" (Domenico Valentino Soprintendente per the B.A.P and P.S.A.D for the provinces of Florence, Pistoia, Prato). The lighting design fits in with the general idea behind the furbishing project, and involves the installation of specially designed lighting appliances, that take up as little space as possible, placed on the metal rims from which the paintings are hung. Halogen light sources with dichroic reflectors for optimum colour rating placed in smooth rows have been used to light up the section of the ceiling opposite the lighting appliance. This means the walls are lit up evenly ready to be hung with works of art of different sizes and colours: the building´s architectural spaces are co-players in the overall exhibition layout.
