In 1985 Albert Barokas, architect, was commissioned to design the flagship store of Adler Jewellery in Geneva, within a general definition of a new corporate identity applicable to all other stores namely in London, Gstaad and Athens. The architect bearing in mind that jewellery is the play of light on stones that convert them in fact into gems, considered lighting as an essential and identity-definning element to be introduced into the design process of the Adler stores. The Piero Castiglioni Studio was consulted on all aspects of the general lighting of the store as well as the shop-windows, designing the fixtures and lamps that would allow the optimum lighting of desired quality. A delicate balance to cold and warm sources of light were defined according to it's positions and purposes within the store, the exposition cases and on the sales areas. A central trade-mark lamp was designed to be applicable to all stores so that the fixture was to be perceived as a such, reinforcing the importance of quality lighting in the appreciation of jewellery.
