The desire to focus careful attention on the Dior collections, as if they were on display in a museum, resulted in the decision
to use a system of lighting appliances, hidden from view, encased in a "gorge" inserted in the ceiling. These
"gorges", equipped with extremely low-voltage halogen lamps, light up the clothes and objects on display with
indirect light to make them the real showpieces of the space, accentuated even further by extremely high luminance ratings. The
French designer label´s biggest flag shop in the world opened in Omotesando-Tokyo in December 2003. This was an experiment
with a new concept of building designed like a manifesto: the façade changes colour at day and night, and the inside
features the use of black and white lacquers, and black metal and stone for the floors. The lighting, carefully incorporated
in the architecture, highlights the different uses and products by altering the colour of the fluorescent tubes in the various
ranges of degrees Kelvin available (6000 for the façade, 4200 for the communal spaces) and using halogen spotlights
(3050 K9) for the goods on display to ensure maximum colour effects.
